The Event is a unique fundraiser benefiting two local charities striving to ease the burdens and pains of the entire family affected by life-threatening pediatric illness.  Guests enjoy tastings from the Capital Region’s finest restaurants, spirits, wine, beer and premium cigars – network and socialize under the stars while supporting The AMC’s Journeys Program sponsored by For the Love of Sophie and The Capital District YMCA’s Circle of Champs!

Funds raised through The Event in 2016 “were a game changer for the Journeys Program!”   said Dr. Joanne Porter of the Albany Medical Center.  She and her team are transforming the world of innovative palliative care, striving to relieve suffering and improve quality of life for people of any age and at any stage of a serious illness, whether that illness is curable, chronic or life-threatening.  The Journeys program features physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, pastoral ministers, child life specialists and counselors all trained to offer patients and families needed support in a soothing atmosphere unlike your typical hospital settings.  We are hoping future funds raised through the event can help fund a therapeutic Multi Sensory Environment room (MSE) for the program!

“Circle of Champs” is a free program sponsored by The Capital District YMCA. For 20 years Circle of Champs has helped families with children facing life threatening illnesses by providing a support system that goes well behind monetary support.  The Champs program supports these children and their families through membership scholarships, programs, summer camps, monthly events, Christmas parties and many other support systems subsidized through donations. The Champs program acts as a diversion for these families, by creating great experiences and providing an opportunity to just be kids again!  Parents and families all join in and experience the fun, fellowship and support from other families who are facing similar challenges.  Many of these families form life long bonds, and stay engaged with the “Circle of Champs” program.  The Event gift to the Champs program in 2016 was life changing!  We are so proud of the programs our support was able to sponsor – but we can’t wait to do more!
